Latitude - The organisers have again offered the village the opportunity of raising money for the church roof appeal by manning one of the gates, over the period of the festival. The gate will need to be manned by two people throughout the 24 hours, every day the festival is open i.e. Thursday 12 noon until sometime of Monday morning. A large sum is raised from this duty, all of which goes to the Roof Fund. If you are able to volunteer for a shift please contact Robin Chater for details on 578523.

Horticultural Society -- Last month several members of Wangford and District Horticultural Society enjoyed a trip to 'The Laburnums' in St James South, the garden belonging to the October speaker, Jane Bastow. She and her husband have spent the last 17 years changing what was little more than a field into a wonderful mixture of trees, shrubs, vivid borders, wild corners and a profusion of colourful spring flowers. There was nothing rigid or formal. It was very welcoming. There were plants to buy as well as cakes, books, bric-a-brac, hand made craft items for the garden and refreshments. It was very well supported and members look forward with great interest to her talk on October 20.

May also saw the first of several monthly competitions to keep our members busy! Pumpkin seeds, courtesy of president, Graham Scriven, were delivered to all members for planting up and it is hoped to have a grand weigh in on Tuesday October 20. As well as prizes on the night winners and runners up will be awarded points which will go towards a winter trophy, a unique, engraved glass bowl generously donated by Jean Burns and Mike Jennings.

At the time of writing the Pensthorpe trip is scheduled to take place on June 13, although the response was disappointing and has resulted in the cost rising for those who have booked to go.

The Annual Show is only seven weeks away, do come along and support the society.

Neighbourhood Watch - In light of recent burglary in Millfields, theft of building materials in Church Street and break ins of sheds on the allotments it is clear the neighbourhood watch needs to be rejuvenated. New people have joined and the next meeting is at 7.30pm on June 11, in the Community Centre. New members are always welcome.

Committee meetings - The Centre Management committee next meet on June 2 at 7.30pm.

Church Services - As it is the fifth Sunday of May there will be a joint eucharist service in Walberswick Church starting at 9.30am. The service will be led by Rev David Eaton and is a great opportunity for worshippers and visitors to visit a different church in the Sole Bay Team (Mk.2) and join together in fellowship. All will be most welcome in this lovely church.
