||Tractor run - The annual thank-you party for those involved with the East Suffolk Vintage Tractor Run took place at Wenhaston Village Hall on June 26, and was well attended. Representatives of this year's nominated good causes were present. Proceeds this year were divided between the St John Ambulance (Beccles and Bungay) and the Meadow Green Dog Rescue Centre, at Hales Green. Staff gave an insight as to how the monies would be used. They each received a cheque for £1,100 from road run organiser Arthur Musk. The total was raised both by sponsorship monies from the tractor drivers and from public donations. The marshals were presented with their commemorative mugs and were thanked for their help in ensuring the smooth running of the run. Thanks are due to Arthur Musk for organising the evening, to the women who provided the refreshments, and to Roger and Thomas Desborough for arranging the equipment to enable the DVDs to be shown.
||Horticultural Society - The sun shone, a gentle breeze blew and the water birds of Pensthorpe proudly showed off their new offspring to the 24 members and friends who went on the trip on June 13. July 18 is the annual horticultural show at Wangford Community Centre. Exhibitors are reminded that all entry forms should be returned to Clive Akers or Nick Merry by July 16, before 8pm (accompanied by 20p per entry) and entries must be staged between 7.30am and 10am on the Saturday morning. Judging will start at 10.15am when the hall must be cleared of all except the judges and officials. The doors will open at 2pm. Admission is £1 for adults, children free. As well as the exhibits there will be refreshments and a raffle, which will be drawn after the presentation of prizes, at about 4.30pm. For a show schedule or entry form call 01502 578057/722459.
||Sports Club - After playing 18 seasons in the Waveney League (October to March) the short mat team have had to withdraw, owing to decreasing membership and increasing age. Three other teams have withdrawn in recent years with the same problems. Two others have joined - Kessingland and Wortwell - making eight teams for the coming season, when there will be four in Waveney and four in Norfolk. Snooker and social activities continue at the community centre on Fridays at 2 pm. Evening sessions will resume again in September.
Barber in centre - Stewart Sharman will be in the centre on Wednesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Alternatively he is also available to offer a home visiting service on the same day. Call 01502 568392 to arrange.
||Church services - There will be holy communion on Sunday in Wangford Church at 11am, followed by evening prayer in Uggeshall Church at 6pm. Edward Shotter will be at Wangford and Brian Fisher at Uggeshall.
