Road, bus and rail users face disruption in Waveney when Network Rail carries out work on the East Suffolk railway line.

The work will involve track renewal at Beccles and see both the Ingate and Grove Road level crossings in the centre of town closed for a week from late on Friday February 5 to late on Friday February 12.

National Express East Anglia will be replacing the rail service between Halesworth and Lowestoft with a bus service and the X2 First bus service operating between Lowestoft and Norwich will operate only to Beccles bus station via George Westwood Way.

The route of the X2 service will be altered considerably in Worlingham, operating from the A146 from Lowestoft along the B1127 Copland Way, Benacre and Ellough Roads, Hillside Avenue, Lowestoft Road returning to the A146 and vice versa from Norwich.

The work will also involve the closure of the A12 at Darsham level crossing from 11.30pm on Friday February 12 until 5.30am on Monday February 15.

The recommended road diversion will be from Yoxford to Blythburgh via Westleton.

National Express East Anglia will be replacing the rail service between Saxmundham and Lowestoft with buses. The 521 bus service will omit the Darsham station stop.

A Network Rail spokesman said work such as vegetation clearance would also be carried out at the same time to prevent further disruption.

“We have worked hard to make sure we have been able to make best use of the closure of the railway,” the spokesman said.

“We have had a look across our business and are trying to make sure any work scheduled in this part of the world takes place at the same time rather than causing further disruption in the weeks and months ahead.”
