Council bosses yesterday stressed that home visits to complete forms only take place between September and November and fear thieves are posing as officials in a bid to con residents.
It is understood people have been warned they will be fined if they do not fill in their forms and that, on at least one occasion, money has been handed over.
Mary Rudd, Waveney District Council's portfolio holder for communities and governance, said: “All employees on legitimate council business carry identification, so if any visitor to your home claims to be from the council please ask to see it.
“Although canvassers do make house visits to obtain completed forms, this only occurs between September and November, money is never involved and you are perfectly within your rights to seek confirmation before passing over any personal information.”
