Waveney District Council's bin collection teams are not operating today (Wednesday) due to the 'treacherous conditions.'

The Beast from the East has caused delays on the roads with reports of rush hour journeys taking more than two hours this morning and many motorists having to turn around in large queues of traffic.

Waveney District Council tweeted: 'Due to the treacherous conditions and to ensure safety of our crews and the public there will be no refuse collection/cleansing crews out today.

'We will catch up over the next few days, possibly including Saturday. If your collection is due, leave your bin out and we will get there!'

The council is also currently 'experiencing technical problems' meaning that customers calling Waveney's Customer Services centre 'may experience delays.'

The Marina Theatre in Lowestoft is closing earlier today, with the two scheduled films – 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – that were due to be showcased on Wednesday now cancelled.

A theatre spokesman said: 'In the interests of safety, we will be closing the theatre from 3pm today (Wednesday). Both films will be cancelled and we will be contacting patrons who have already booked. We apologise for this.

'We continue to monitor the weather forecast and any further updates will be issued on social media.'

Swimming lessons have been cancelled, as Sentinel Leisure Trust – which manages and operates a number of leisure sites on behalf of Waveney District Council, Suffolk County Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council – posted on Wednesday morning: 'Due to local weather warnings and current conditions and that we prioritise customer and staff safety we have taken the decision to cancel all swimming lessons until further notice.

'All sites are open at present however this may change depending on staff availability and managers views on access/safety to their sites.'
