The atmosphere this week was mellow and relaxed and the overall selection of music was definitely traditional. Graham started the round-a-table with Keep on the Sunny Side of Life which, without doubt, started us all on a high note. Mel sang the Low Low Lands of Holland in his usual much loved and distinctive way, and Les read a poem called Matilda with real feeling. Carol, Maureen and Graham treated us to a tune, Glenna Marra, using concertinas, melodeons and a recorder. They performed with the sort of professionalism which comes from the pleasure of working together often. Carol also sang Steal Away, a lovely song which she sang beautifully. Pakefield Pete gave us a lot of humour with his work, most of which he writes himself, and his antics certainly enhances any performance. Our guests were Ted, Paul and Dawn, performing as Sylvanne. They sang Matty Groves and also finished the evening with The Hills of Connemarra. The next meeting is on August 14, at Crown Street Hall (entrance off Factory Street) starting at 8pm. If you enjoy some nostalgia and would like to sing or just listen then feel free to come and join us; you will find a warm welcome.
