This week was the final sing-a-round for the summer and those people who attended were not only in fine voice but had chosen an imaginative range of songs. Jim started the group with a strong song, Manchester Rambler, followed by Geoff singing, You've Got A Friend. Ros is clearly becoming more confident and sang Long, Long Before Your Time in an almost haunting way. David played his violin and sang The North Wall, a song about change and the difficulties of acceptance. Nick and Gale sang The Sound Of Silence, a popular and well known song. Lesley and Gillian both read poems, with humour as expected. A particular Pam Ayers Poem, My Husband Knows It All, caused quite a lot of hilarity. Mick chose Cat Stephen's, (now Yusuf Islam), Father And Son, and Susie sang Wedding Day in a beautifully clear voice. Mel chose a traditional song, The Innocent Hare' which he sang in his distinctive baritone voice. He also sang Yah, Yah, Yah as a tribute to Johny Collis, a very popular artist, who died a couple of months ago. Diana played and sang Wild Women Don't Have The Blues, whilst Steve sang some hilarious songs about white van drivers and tractors causing chaos on the roads, which went down a treat. George and Joan played their Melodians and George sang some nostalgic 40s songs, Boiled Beef And Carrots and My Wife Won't Let Me. Jim completed the evening by leading us all in Wild Mountain Thyme. For the new season starting on September 11 at 8pm. The guest singers will be Mary Humphries and Anahata. The hall is in Crown Street but access is from Factory Street.
