Waveney MP Peter Aldous has vowed to work with police to prevent more 'horrific murders' following another fatal stabbing in Suffolk.

Mr Aldous spoke out after the death of a 28-year-old man in Lowestoft on Saturday night.

It was Suffolk's second knife death in five weeks – after Tavis Spencer-Aitkens was killed in Ipswich – and a fifth stabbing probe since the beginning of June.

Nine days after the 17-year-old's death in Packard Avenue on June 2, a 20-year-old man was stabbed in Pauline Street, Ipswich, before a boy of 16 was stabbed on June 13 at Mcdonald's in Ravenswood and a man in his 30s was stabbed near Haverhill Rugby Club on June 23.

A 23-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the most recent incident in Lowestoft.

Police were called to reports of a man with serious injuries in the Underwood Close cul-de-sac at 11.14pm on Saturday.

He later died in hospital.

Detectives believe it was a targeted attack.

Mr Aldous said: 'I can imagine what is a quiet neighbourhood is very much in shock at this terrible event and my thoughts very much go out to the victim and his family and I would urge anyone who knows anything that might assist the police to contact them with that.

'I think from my perspective I will be keeping close contact with police as we learn much more about this situation and see what can be done to ensure these horrific murders don't happen.'

He added: 'Clearly if additional resources are needed to address these concerns I will be raising that.'

Detective chief inspector Mike Brown said this remained an active investigation and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

Police patrols are set to increase in the area during the day.

Anyone with information about the Lowestoft stabbing should call police 101, quoting Operation Ardwick or reference 37/37772/18, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
