Waveney plans to celebrate Queen's birthday
From to street parties, to public picnics to concerts there are various activities being held across the Waveney district and surrounding areas, for all to enjoy, to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday.
Saint Bartholomew’s Church, Corton will commence three days of festivities, this Friday at 7.30pm, with a concert of music and songs from each decade of the last 90 years supplied by The Coastline Singers, June Bailey and The Oulton Broads. Admission is £6, which includes a finger buffet.
Also, today, Lowestoft College nursery will be celebrating with a special party of their own where children and staff will bake their own tasty treats such as scones and jam tarts. The youngsters, aged between 6 weeks and 5 years, will also participate in a number of royal-themed activities during the morning and such as making flags, bunting, decorations and crowns.
An afternoon of fun and games will be held at Southwold Hospital Green between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday (June 11). Organisers particularly encourage families to come and enjoy games on the green and bring along picnics. For further information call 01502 722 576.
The celebrations continue on Sunday (June 12) as a picnic is to be held on Royal Green, Lowestoft, between 2pm and 4pm. Entry is free and attendees will be able to enjoy entertainment such as hook a duck, balloon sculptures, tombola and a magic show. Pupils at Reydon Primary School will receive commemorative medals from Reydon Parish Council during a special assembly this afternoon (June 10).
St Benedict’s Church, Gunton, hosts evening led by Lowestoft Choral Society, tonight from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available by calling 01502 583117 or 01502 574239.
Saturday, June 11, Saint Bartholomew’s Church, Corton, hosts 90 Years of Corton Life, an exhibition of pictures and artefacts of village life, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Also on Saturday, Gisleham Fete Committee hosts its 64th annual Summer Fete, to be held at White House Farm, Gisleham; featuring the Trooping of the Colour ceremony for the Queen’s official 90th birthday. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue clothing in accordance with the royal theme.
On Sunday, June 12, a 1920s themed tea party with live music will be held from 3pm to 5.15pm St Bartholomew’s Church, Corton. Tickets are £8, under 10s enter for free.
A traditional village fete will be held at Kessingland Community Centre, on Sunday, featuring a raffle, bric-a-brac stalls among other entertainment. The event will be held between 1 and 4.30pm for more information call 07402 754172.
Blundeston In Bloom is organising a family fun and picnic afternoon at Blundeston Millennium Green. A tug of war, children’s races and games will be held between 1 and 6pm with beacon lighting at 3pm.
