A pair of talented Waveney roofers have been ranked among the best apprentices in the country.

Joe Burgess and Bradley Garner, who work with Waveney District Council's maintenance team, have been shortlisted for the Icopal Ltd Flat roofing Apprentice of the Year 2018.

Last month they attended a gruelling two day final in Cirencester were they were put through their paces against apprentices from across the UK.

The winners were announced at a gala dinner on June 27 – with Mr Burgess receiving the Highly Commended award.

Cllr Chris Punt, cabinet member for housing, said: 'Our congratulations go to Joe and Bradley on reaching the final of these prestigious national awards and further congratulations go to Joe for achieving his Highly Commended position.

'We are immensely proud of them both and of all our apprentices across the Council who help deliver important services with such enthusiasm and determination.'

The Apprentice of the Year scheme selects the best apprentices from the UK's training and building colleges, including the Eastern Region Roof Training Group where Joe and Bradley are enrolled.
