“LEAVE well alone”. That is the overwhelming message that Lowestoft residents have sent to the Boundary Committee on their proposal, under the Local Government Review, to move Lowestoft into Norfolk.
The Local Government Review is looking at the best way to deliver council services in the future.
The Boundary Committee is consulting on two proposals: two unitary councils covering Suffolk (its current preferred option), or one unitary council for the whole of Suffolk. In both cases it proposes Lowestoft moves into Norfolk.
In the latest round-up of consultation responses that the Boundary Committee has drawn together, it is clear that residents have been sending in the county council designed postcards “love it or lose it - Lowestoft forever” with their views on the proposals.
Over 230 people have written to the Boundary Committee to say that they want Lowestoft to stay in Suffolk.
Julia Stephens-Row, assistant director who is leading on the consultation said: “There have been a fantastic number of responses to the Boundary Committee. We are happy that residents have used these postcards to voice their concerns about the Boundary Committee's proposal to move Lowestoft into Norfolk. They were designed to not only catch the eye of residents, but also the eye of the Boundary Committee.”
She added: “It is a measure of the strength of feeling in Lowestoft that so many people are willing to write and post the cards to the Committee. They recognise that a strong, united Suffolk is the best future for Lowestoft.”
If you haven't already sent your views to the Boundary Committee, look out for a postcard in your local library, school or shop.
