We're not sitting back

ISSUES relating to the new housing development in Ullswater are causing concern among residents (Postbox, March 19) and their clear frustration with the disruption they have endured is understandable.

ISSUES relating to the new housing development in Ullswater are causing concern among residents (Postbox, March 19) and their clear frustration with the disruption they have endured is understandable.

However, far from failing to acknowledge these concerns, we are working closely with the developers and - just as importantly - the local government ombudsman.

The ombudsman provides an independent assessment of complaints against any local authority and is carefully scrutinising the process that led to the decision taken by the planning committee and its implications.

Therefore, while we are sympathetic to the concerns of the current residents, we are certainly not sitting back and we are co-operating throughout in the best interests of everyone concerned.

Clearly, we await the ombudsman's findings with great interest.
