All dogs apart from guide dogs have been banned from Wetherspoon pubs as of Monday.

According to a spokesman, our canine pals are too “unpredictable” to be allowed on the premises of a pub.

Both Beccles’ and Lowestoft’s Wetherspoons, the Kings Head Hotel and the Joseph Conrad respectively, have large external areas often used by punters to sit outside and enjoy the weather with their furry friends.

However, the Wetherspoon’s website states that dogs are not permitted in “our pubs, hotels or in external areas which belong to us or are managed by us.

“This includes beer gardens and outside pavement areas.”

The website goes on to say: “We realise that this may seem quite strict, but our pubs are busy, with families and children present, and we serve a lot of food. Even well-trained dogs can sometimes behave unpredictably.”

Guide dogs and other registered assistance dogs are allowed in the pubs, with the chain recommending the dog wears its recognisable leash/collar or harness and “suitable documentation to explain your dog’s purpose”.
