THIS year marks the tenth anniversary of Lowestoft College's Celebration of Achievement Awards.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Zest Rooms at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton, next Tuesday and will recognise the accomplishments of 14 students.

Each year, tutors nominate students and put them forward for various reasons, including their achievements in overcoming challenges in life, their work in the local community or for excelling in their chosen subject.

This year, more than 50 students were nominated, and a panel of judges has had the difficult job of whittling that number down to the final 14: read all about them below.

The finalists, their friends, families, tutors, sponsors and local VIPs have been invited to attend the awards ceremony, where each finalist will be presented with a prize and a certificate to mark their achievements.

The Journal has been linked with the awards since they were introduced in 2002 and will again be presenting the Student Achiever of the Year Award to one of the finalists.

The winner of the title has already been chosen by Journal editor Max Bennett and assistant principal Ruth Harrison, but the name will remain a closely-guarded secret until the winner is announced on the evening.

Lowestoft and Waveney Chamber of Commerce will be presenting its President’s Award. The award, which was introduced in 2003, is given to a student who has shown entrepreneurial spirit.

Lowestoft College principal Simon Summers said: “This is my first Celebration of Achievement Awards ceremony as principal, and I am really looking forward to it.

“I have seen the progress made by our students over the course
of the year, and the awards are
a great way to recognise the hard work they put in and success
that they have achieved.”
