POLICE are seeking witnesses after a 21-year-old woman had to be taken to hospital following an attack on a Lowestoft footpath.

The 21-year-old was on her way home around 8.30pm to 9pm on Saturday when the attack happened near the footpath running under the road bridge in Rotterdam Road.

The woman suffered an inch-long puncture wound to her thigh, as she was assaulted by another girl as trouble flared.

Police are keen to trace a girl, thought to be aged in her mid teens who is described as black or of mixed race, of slim build, around 5ft 4ins tall, with straight shoulder length hair. She was wearing a dark jacket, a blue top and dark trousers and was with a white, blonde-haired girl of similar age.

Officers need to speak to both of these girls in connection with the attack and it's thought they may have been part of a larger group in the area around this time.

The 21-year-old woman made her way home and was then taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston where the wound was treated.

Anyone who saw the incident or who has information about the girls should telephone Lowestoft CID on 01986 835300.
