A 43-year-old woman was left shaken after she was sexually assaulted as she walked home alone in Great Yarmouth.

The attack happened at about 8.25pm on New Year's Day in Steam Mill Lane, close to its junction with Bridge Road and the Haven Bridge.

Earlier the victim had been accompanied by a male friend when the two spoke to a group of teenagers outside the convenience store, formerly the Londis shop, in Mill Road, before she then continued on her own and was assaulted minutes later.

The attacker grabbed the woman and pushed her against a wall before subjecting her to a sexually motivated assault.

He is described as being in his late 30s, of medium build, about 6ft with dark hair and wearing a dark hooded jacket, jeans and white trainers with a blue Nike Swoosh tick.

It is believed the attacker, who spoke with a local accent, might have suffered bruising or a cut under his right eye.

Det Insp Matt Sharman, who is leading the investigation, said: 'This was a frightening attack on a lone woman who has been left extremely shaken by what happened.'
