People living in a Suffolk town say a knifepoint threat by a group of teenagers has left them shaken.

A woman, who is aged in her 40s, was approached by two boys and a girl on Rose Lane in Bungay at 6pm on Monday, November 11.

The victim was approached by the group outside the Premier store in St Mary's Street, before they then followed her to Rose Lane, where one of the boys brandished a knife and made threats towards her.

The suspects are all described as white and aged between 14 and 16.

A 24-year-old from the town said she has also had a "negative experience" with a group of teenagers "banging on the door, windows and the black bins" outside her workplace.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I didn't feel that scared as they did look very young and small, and I have lived in Bungay all my life, I know that these youngsters do things to scare people but don't do anything to harm anyone.

"Even though they are young, it's terrifying for anyone to get threatened by a knife however old.

"I walk home from work sometimes and it has made he think twice now, it's even more terrifying to think where they got the knife from and why their parents are even letting them out with one at that time of the night."

Bungay mayor Sue Collins said: "I don't know if Bungay has a great problem with anti-social behaviour more than other market towns, and talking to other mayors of market towns, we are sharing the same problems.

"We no longer have a visible presence of police in the town, and we will always have groups of children who will chance their arms."

She said she was not criticising the police.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the Neighbourhood Response Team at Lowestoft Police Station, quoting reference number 68409/19.
