A PURPOSE-built new pre-school, breakfast, after-school and holiday club - costing more than £250,000 - is aiming to be the Tops.

Building work has now started on the Tree Tops facility, which will be based in the grounds of Woods Loke Primary School,, in Lowestoft.

And this week, Tree Tops committee member Lisa Johnson revealed that after months and months of hard work and dedication, the scheme is now close to reality.

“The scheme has been two years in the planning and is run entirely by an enthusiastic and willing volunteer committee. The registered charity will provide a pre-school for two-and-a-half to five year olds, a breakfast club, an after school and holiday club for five to 12 year-olds.”

Since the multi-purpose development was announced in July, there has been a “tremendous response” from parents, according to the committee - and already many places are provisionally filled.

The committee chairman and Woods Loke headteacher Mark Prentice said: “Special thanks should go to Georgina Turner, of Morton Partnership, who gave invaluable support and encouragement during the early stages and she will now act as health and safety adviser to the project.”

Danny Brunton, contracts director at M S Oakes, who also has a child at Woods Loke, has intimated to the group that the hope is that building work will be completed by March next year.

And Mrs Johnson said: “We would like to thank Waveney District Council for a grant of £500 and Essex and Suffolk Water for their very generous donations of £200. We still have a long way to go towards the estimated £17,000 needed to equip the building, but we are thrilled with the response so far.”
