Schools across Waveney have been celebrating all that is wonderful about books, albeit a few days later than planned.

As is customary, pupils and staff members dressed up as characters from their favourite stories for the 21st edition of World Book Day.

The annual festivities officially took place on Thursday, March 1, but widespread snowfall largely halted proceedings as hundreds of schools were closed.

Nevertheless, most schools rescheduled their plans for this week, when pupils were finally able to don their costumes and compare their efforts with each other.

Westwood Primary School was among the schools to celebrate, with children arriving dressed as characters including Harry Potter, the Queen of Hearts and Fantastic Mr Fox. Members of staff rivalled the youngsters for imagination with efforts such as Cruella de Vil and The Cat in the Hat.

Elsewhere, Phoenix St Peter Academy went for a space theme and there were Darth Vaders, aliens and astronauts a plenty.
