Top gymnasts from two international teams will be training in Lowestoft ahead of next month's world championships.

Waveney Gymnastics Centre will be home to the teams from Canada and Great Britain as they prepare for the world championships in London.

Vikki Rogers, manager of Waveney Gymnastics Centre, said that securing world championship training is a boost to the club's bid to be part of the 2012 Olympic training.

She said: 'We had identified the world gymnastics championships as an extremely important indicator of the likely interest in our facility by international gymnastics federations ahead of the Olympics. To secure two teams is a fantastic endorsement of our potential.'

The Canadian men's gymnastics team will be in Lowestoft between September 26 and October 6, with the Great Britain men's team arriving on October 6 for three days of training.

The Great Britain squad will include Louis Smith, who made Plympic history by being the first British gymnast to win an individual medal at the Olympic Games for 100 years in Beijing 2008, and Daniel Keatings, who turned into the star of the 2008 Junior European Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland, winning four gold medals.

It is hoped that a number of open training sessions will be held to give the local community the opportunity to see first hand some of the best gymnasts in the world in action.

Waveney Gymnastics Centre was opened in 2003 and is widely acknowledged as one of the best facilities of its kind in the country.
