More than 50 people hit a hole in one – and boosted a worthy cause in the process.

Over the summer Southwold Putting Green held a fundraising drive, which saw them donate £5 to the Sole Bay Care Fund for every hole in one scored.

Southwold Putting Green owner, Poppi Smith, and manager, Mike Simmans, were delighted to hand over the £295 they collected over the summer to Cathy Ryan of the Sole Bay Care Fund.

'We collected the money on the 18th hole,' said Poppi. 'Every time a putter scored a 'Hole in One' we donated £5 to this worthy local cause. It was a great incentive to the putters and more than 50 people, young and old, managed to achieve this.'

This is the first year of ownership for Poppi Smith and Andy Darnell, and both have been really impressed with both the friendliness of the customers who come to play and the way families come together to take part in one of the few sports that give an equal playing field to children and adults alike. In Poppi's opinion, this is how the Putting Green has maintained its popularity over the years with not an Ipad or game playing phone to be seen!
