Yarmouth sex attack appeal

Detectives hope drinkers in a seafront bar might be able to provide vital clues in their investigation of a serious sex attack in Yarmouth.

The young female victim had been drinking in the Long Bar, in Marine Parade, before she left early on Saturday, walking along Britannia Road and Apsley Road before she was attacked in an alley off Albion Road at about 4.45am.

Det Chief Insp Jes Fry said: 'There is a possibility someone followed her from the Long Bar so I am interested in contacting anyone who was in there, especially anyone who left after about 2am, so we can eliminate them from the inquiry.'

He said they were also keen to hear from taxi drivers picking up fares in the area between 4am and 5am.

The attacker, who engaged his victim in conversation before pushing her in an alley and assaulting her, is believed to have been wearing a white T-shirt and black trousers. He is described as white and in the 16 to 30 age group.

Det Chief Insp Fry said: 'I would like to stress that offences such as this are extremely rare and we are working with colleagues to help reassure the local community. I would ask anyone living or working in the area who saw anyone acting suspiciously or heard anything to contact police as soon as possible.'
