The troll, who calls himself Dreamer, threatened to track down Miles Weston, adding: “you’ll be killed, bagged, and thrown into the river”.

Miles Weston, the administrator of Norfolk Broads Forum, has reported the abuse and attempted extortion to police, who have opened an investigation.

One of Dreamer’s messages reads: “You have called me far too many names, and I cannot allow your mockery to go without recourse.

“You just signed your own death warrant, sir. Your boat is going to be tracked to a point where you’ll be killed, bagged, and thrown into the river.

“Enjoy the time you have left, Miles, because your death will be horrific and shown on every Broads-based forum in existence.”

Mr Weston said Dreamer had registered on his forum after being kicked off others for making similar threats.

“He was complaining about the other forums and it all started to get a bit toxic. I messaged him and told him to calm down but he became aggressive and made death threats.

“I have tried my best to track him down but have not been able to find any information. He keeps re-registering on the forum using different e-mail and IP addresses.”

In another message to Mr Weston, Dreamer writes: “I have decided to sue you on grounds of illegal use of my data.

“This was data provided to you under the terms of your website, and for the sole purpose of joining your website.

“I am asking £6,000 to settle out of court, or we can do this the more expensive way where I assure you the cost will be considerably higher, in addition, you would be liable for all legal costs involved in dealing with it.”

He signed the message Leonard Bannster.

He later changed his demand to £50,000.

Norfolk police confirmed they were looking into the issue. A police spokesman said: “The matter has been reported to the police. Officers are in the early stages of the investigation and enquires are on-going.”
