Budding Jamies, Delias and Nigellas cooked up a treat on Saturday as they took part in a competition designed to showcase their culinary skills.

The 14 to16-year-olds from Lowestoft College spend one day at the college learning about the catering trade and they used their lessons to good affect as they had to cook a meal for two people for just £10.

As well as cooking the tasty meal, students had to prove their food hygiene skills and show judges how they seasoned and presented the meals.

The youngsters also had an added reason to cook up a treat for the judges as they competed against fellow students from Suffolk New and West Suffolk Colleges.

A competition spokesman said: “The competition gives students the opportunity to experience the realities of a kitchen in a pressurised environment.”
