LOWESTOFT TOWN 5 GORLESTON 2

Lowestoft Town were looking to complete a league double as they welcomed Gorleston to the Foster’s Solicitors Community Stadium for the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division fixture on Boxing Day.

Although the game saw three penalties and seven goals, it never reached any great heights.

It was The Greens who looked sharper in the opening stages and all Lowestoft had offered was a Jake Reed header straight into the hands of Jake Jessup before they were awarded a 16th-minute penalty when Mitchell McKay brought down Kyle Haylock.

Adam Hipperson stepped up to convert from the spot.

Gorleston almost hit back immediately but from 18 yards Connor Deeks saw his drive turned over the bar by Luke Holt.

Gorleston didn’t have long to wait to level the score with Holt forced to bring down Connor Ingram and Deeks despatched the spot kick.

The game saw more endeavour than flair but a touch of quality enabled Lowestoft to regain the lead in the 37th minute.

A combination between Reed and Dave Hinton played Hipperson through the Gorleston defence to slide the ball past Jessup.

Early in the second half an important save by Holt preserved Lowestoft’s lead before The Trawlerboys increased their lead in the 53rd minute.

A Louis McIntosh corner saw an under-pressure Jessup only able to push the ball up and Travis Cole rose highest to head home from close range.

Lowestoft added a fourth goal in the 77th minute as the ball was played out to Rhys Logan.

He cut inside the penalty area and delightfully curled the ball into the far top corner.

To their credit Gorleston kept fighting and were awarded a second penalty in the final minute after substitute Jake Spooner was brought down and Connor Ingram converted from the spot.
