After the gales the day before, the wind strength on Sunday had dropped to a great 15mph, but blowing from the south meant a very tight course for the Waveney & Oulton Broad Yacht Club racing - with two beats across the Broad.

The gusts were fierce enough to cause a few capsizes in the dinghy fleet, while the Squibs tried hard not to make mistakes with their spinnakers up.

Veronica Falat in her Streaker took the lead in the Fast Handicap, but only by two seconds from James Nourse in his Laser.

A capsize in the second race didn’t help her results, allowing James to win from George Madin in his Aero.

The Squibs saw Brimstone (Bryan and Jenny Riley) break clear at the start, but they were never far enough ahead to relax.

They were chased by Flame (Richard Smith and Graham Reeve) in the first lap, Paramour (Chris Schonhut and Laurence Read) in the second, and then Croc (Chris and Gill Jordan) at the finish.

Croc had to thank Clever Dick (Richard Sullivan and Sue Harper) for forcing them to sail the "wrong" side of the dredger, which allowed them to jump up two places.

The second set of races saw the course lengthened by moving the windward marks, but the first windward mark to starboard still caused a few worrying moments depending on which boat the gusts helped.

Paramour held onto starboard for longer than the rest of the fleet off the start line, allowing them to round in the lead.

As the 'newcomers' to the fleet, Chris and Laurence are making fewer mistakes each week, and managed to hold onto the lead for a lap longer than last week.

Brimstone missed the shift up the first beat and rounded last, but then took a great gust down the first run to pick up to second.

They then found a good shift on the second lap to take the lead, before Flame attacked down wind to grab the inside berth and the lead around the leeward mark.

Croc sorted themselves out after a poor start to challenge for the lead, until a spinnaker mistake on the final run dropped them back to fifth.
