AFC SUDBURY 0 LOWESTOFT TOWN 1

A determined and battling performance earned Lowestoft Town an excellent victory over the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division leaders AFC Sudbury.

The Trawlerboys victory brought to an end Sudbury’s record unbeaten run - ironically created when Blues boss Jamie Godbold was their manager.

The victory also extended Lowestoft’s unbeaten record to seven games.

There was an early chance for Lowestoft as Jake Reed ran on to a Charlie Norman pass and lifted the ball over Hughes but Josh Pollard was able to get back easily to clear.

Reed and Adam Hipperson combined to create an opening for Kyle Haylock but he couldn’t hit the target.

After that bright start Sudbury started to take a grip of the game forcing Lowestoft deep into their own penalty.

However, the Trawlerboys defence - superbly marshaled by Travis Cole and Dylan Ruffles - were not in the mood to capitulate.

The Trawlerboys goal survived a couple of hectic scrambles as the first half came to an end, with Murphy and Ruffles clearing shots off the line.

A key moment came in the 52nd minute when Sakariya Hassan played Nwachuku through one on one with the keeper but Warren Burwood produced an outstanding save.

Although seeing less of the ball, Lowestoft were still looking dangerous on the break.

Reed was proving more than a handful for Pollard and Grimwood and it paid dividends in the 70th minute.

Reed again held off Grimwood before dinking the ball over Pollard to Henderson who was wiped out by Hughes as he ran through on goal.

The ice cool Hipperson slammed home the resultant penalty.

Lowestoft surrendered space to defend their lead as the Sudbury finishing becoming more erratic.
