THE fourth Eastern Counties Annual Awards were held in Ipswich and it include a large contingent from Waveney Gymnastics Club who had travelled down to support their nominees.

THE fourth Eastern Counties Annual Awards were held in Ipswich and it include a large contingent from Waveney Gymnastics Club who had travelled down to support their nominees.

Members enjoyed a three course meal followed by presentation to the winners in each of the 12 categories. Ross Grant, from British Gymnastics National Events, was host for the evening and presentations were made by Mrs Avril Spriggs, Deputy President of British Gymnastics and the East Region Welfare Officer.

Waveney Gymnastics Club were delighted that Giarnni Regini-Moran won the award for Junior Male Gymnast aged under 14. Giarnni proved to be a worthy winner following his success in 2009 which included amongst others, a silver medal overall at the Elite Grade National Finals in May, gold medal in the Pegasus Open Team trophy along with Henry Howe and Declan Ayers from Waveney and two gymnasts from Pipers Vale, and at the British Championship he took overall bronze medal and three individual medals, as well as being selected for the G.B. team to compete in an under 12 International competition in Hungary.

The evening was topped off with an award to the Chairman of Waveney Gymnastics Club, Mr John Pawsey, for his services to Men's Artistic Gymnastics in the East Region. Mr Pawsey was given a standing ovation by the proud contingent from the club who were delighted to celebrate his commitment and dedication to their sport and club.

Mr Pawsey has been involved in gymnastics for over 40 years and founded the Waveney Gymnastics in 1976. He dedicates many hours to the club as Chairman, coach and judge and is a long time member of Suffolk Gymnastics Association, the Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association and British Gymnastics quality assurance/examination board. As Chair of the Men's Technical Committee for over 10 years he is committed to raising the standards of Men's Artistic gymnastics in the East Region, he is a well deserved and popular winner of this category.
