TWO talented teenagers are being backed all the way to the top.

There were celebrations this week from Lowestoft-based sporting stars Ellis Jackson and Laura Thacker after they were among the first to benefit from ASDA's Sporting Chance grants for 2009.

15-year-old swimmer Jackson and 17-year-old footballer Thacker have been supported by £500 worth of Sporting Chance grants through the nationwide store.

Helping the youngsters to fulfil their sporting dreams, ASDA Lowestoft will back the athletes with funding that will go towards training and equipment.

ASDA, with the help of SportsAid, have compiled a list of the best emerging young talent in the UK. Both athletes have been selected for their outstanding performances in their sports and will be supported by the store.

ASDA Lowestoft general store manager, Dave Lennox, said: “Sporting Chance has been so successful and customers and colleagues are so proud to be supporting Ellis and Laura. Alongside the grants, we hope to raise as much money as we can over the year to be able to help them with travel, equipment and training and give them as much encouragement as we can.”

With 700 potential Olympic medallists being supported by ASDA SportsAid grants, the store is supporting the Department for Health's Change 4 Life campaign, which is encouraging families to maintain a healthy weight through eating better and moving more.
