SATURDAY sees the eagerly anticipated first local derby of the season as Lowestoft Town take on their rivals from across the bridge - Kirkley & Pakefield.

Since K&P's recent rise to the Ridgeons League Premier Division these clashes have always been keenly contested, drawing invariably the biggest league attendance of the season.

Last season K&P completed a league double over the Blues as they recorded their first ever victories over the Town during their best ever league season whilst the Blues form was disappointing to say the least with minds on events happening in other competitions.

With both teams' squad including players to have played for the opposite camp there is also the added factor of several ex-Wroxham players who may be facing up against each other to add further spice to the fixture.

League form invariably goes out of the window on these occasions but with both sides sitting in the top four of the league there should be no lack of commitment or incident.

The game is being sponsored by the Hope family - and the match ball by Mick Chapman of Ridgeons Ltd.

Last Saturday the Blues ensured that they would go into the New Year sitting on top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Ely City to complete a league double over the Robins by identical scorelines.

The Reserves ended their 2008 programme by hitting double figures against a Leiston Reserves side.

The Youth team were due to be in action last Monday as they travelled to Soham Town Rangers Youth in the Eastern Junior Cup.

On behalf of all at Lowestoft Town may I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
