LOWESTOFT progressed into the next round of the Suffolk Premier Cup with victory in a seven-goal thriller at Whitton.

The Blues were quick out of the blocks once more. The Ridgeons League leaders took an early lead when Russell Stock's half-volley squeezed through the arms of Whitton keeper James Waters on eight minutes.

Amazingly, the home side equalised moments later with a superb run from Ronaldo Wright who skipped past a double challenge before planting it past the Lowestoft keeper Adam Rix.

There was some superb play on the field, with both teams fully up for the challenge, but it took another 20 minutes before Lowestoft went back into the lead through Bradley Hough's header.

With Lowestoft seemingly in control they were stunned when Marcus Saunders turned in an Oliver Brown cross into his own net, to bring the scores level at the end of the first half.

Whitton came out all guns blazing in the second half and it was only the intervention of some excellent keeping that kept the ball out of their net until the hour mark, when Chris Williams slid the ball home.

It was all square soon afterwards though, when substitute Jamie Godbold pounced on an earlier strike pushed away by Waters, and tapped it into the empty net.

Lowestoft claimed the win on 75 minutes when Godbold slid the ball home at the far post.
