NEWLY crowned ABAE champion, Anthony Ogogo, will be heading off to Moscow next week to compete in the European Championships.

Ogogo is part of a 12-strong Great Britain boxing team who will head out to Russia for the tough championships that are held between next Friday, June 4 and June 13.

Beijing Olympians Bradley Saunders (64kg) and Khalid Yafai (51kg) will join Ogogo (75kg) and fellow ABA champion Tommy Stubbs (48kg) in a team which is made-up of nine English boxers, two from Wales and one Scot. GB Boxing's Performance Director, Rob McCracken said: “The GB Boxing squad has performed very well this year and has benefited from being exposed to a high standard of international competition. We are building towards 2012 and this championship will provide us with a good indication of where we are in that process.”

Hoping it will be a case of from Russia with love…..Ogogo - who is pictured here collecting his ABA middleweight champion certificate at the end of his recent win over reigning title-holder Hosea Burton at York Hall, Bethnal Green - is intent on collecting more silverware.

For victory at the European Championships is likely to secure him a place in the Commonwealth Games, which will be held later this year.
