Busy spell on and off the road for Waveney Valley Athletics Club

Waveney Valley Athletic Club held its annual summer barbecue and awards evening on Saturday at Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC.

Sixty members were presented with age standards trophies while other awards handed out by chairman Alan Fairs included club member lifetime achievement awards and most improved runners.

Four members took part in the Ipswich Twilight 5k and 10k races. In the 5k event, Matt Jeffries shaved 19 seconds off his pb to record a time of 15:30. In a high calibre field of 134 he finished 16th.

There was at pb also for Samantha Lines who recorded 17:45 in 81st place. Chris Pimlott ran his fastest 5k for around eight years with 17:51, finishing in 84th while Graham Jackson recorded 1:03.27.

At the Clacton Half Marathon, Alan Richardson continued his impressive form since turning 70. He finished first again in the 70+ age category in 1:57.04 while wife Jayne ran in the 10k race and finished 92nd in 1:00.56.
