CHAPPO'S CORNER

OBVIOUSLY it's disappointing when games are cancelled, but there is nothing you can do about it.

There was no option on Saturday - you have to think about the players' safety as that is of paramount importance, and every single game in the league was called off.

We did contemplate getting a friendly for Tuesday, but in the end we felt that sometimes you can pick up injuries in these games and we didn't want any more.

So we trained hard and Flem (Craig Fleming) and Dave (Carolan) worked in a game situation with the boys and they worked their socks off.

We've also brought in a new signing in the past week - Martin McNeil - after he was released by Soham. He was a non-contract player and it's great to have him on board.

He's a quality player, who is not cup-tied and is available for the Vase, and it's a welcome addition to our squad. We have a lot of players returning from injury, but people still need to get fit, and as we have a good squad of players Martin will have to fight for his place.

On the injury front, Marcus Saunders should be fit again. Carl Poppy has been training really hard, while Matty Potter came through three quarters of the game for the reserves and done really well.

I spoke to Kevin Gook (reserves manager) and they should be congratulated for getting through to the semi finals with a young side.

We'll make the final decisions for the squad tomorrow after training on Thursday - but whatever happens we'll be picking from a very strong squad, as we have some tough decisions to make.

Dale Cockrill is back, but Jamie Stokeld, Ross King and Damian Hilton will all be out through suspensions and being cup-tied.

Tomorrow is a massive game. It is the last 32 of a national competition and so we're expecting a tough game. When you look at all the teams left in the Vase, they are all quality sides and the majority of them are all up there at the top of their respective leagues.

We are under no illusions, tomorrow will be a tough game. We've had them watched, as I'm sure they have as well. We're hoping for a big support to back us as our fans are the best.

The last Vase game attracted short of 1,000 fans so we're hopeful of a similar crowd tomorrow as we hope to get big support on Saturday as the fans play a massive part.

Witney will be a tough nut to crack as they are doing well in their league - we know we're in for a tough game. But, as always, we'll concentrate on ourselves and make sure we get ourselves right for the game.

When we do these things right we have got the capabilities within our squad to hurt them. But we must keep our feet on the ground, put in a shift and make sure we are right.
