SATURDAY'S performance was absolutely superb.

The lads' application, their attitude, preparation and performance was top notch. All credit goes to the lads, they were fantastic.

They've taken a lot of criticism this season due to inconsistency in the league, but they came through all that fantastically to progress into the last 16.

The boys were a credit to themselves and the club in a game played in really difficult conditions. The referee told us before the start of the game that if a big downpour happened during the match the game would be called off.

Luckily the weather held out, but the pitch did cut up and the conditions weren't ideal for the type of football we like to play.

But we had a big crowd of fantastic supporters willing us on in indifferent conditions as we deservedly won the game. We went 1-0 down against the run of play but showed great character, stuck together and scored a great equaliser through Bradley Hough.

Darren Cockrill then showed great awareness to score a quickly-taken free-kick and put us ahead.

Gary McGee added a well-worked third and we were well in control. But they scored a dubious penalty and put us on the backfoot as we took about ten minutes to get to grips with a change of formation as a unit.

But we stuck together and came through it to earn a fantastic, thoroughly deserved win. To be in the last 16 is absolutely fantastic - we got there a few years ago.

We've consistently got to the last 32, but we've overcome that hurdle now - and we know the next round will be a tough, tough game.

Dunston Federation had an emphatic win on Saturday in the last round. We've played north east sides before and they've always been big, strong, physical and well-organised.

We're going to do our homework and will have them watched as we're pleased to be in the last 16 and now we'll be doing everything in our power to stay in the competition and progress into the quarter finals.

Between now and then though, there is a lot of football to be played. We've done fantastic in the Vase and cup competitions - now it's time to improve our league form.

Everyone is now playing for places to be in the Vase team - and it's important now that we start getting a run together. It all starts with a tough game against CRC tomorrow - but the boys are buzzing at the moment and everyone is fighting fit and up for a starting place.

Craig Lewis will be having a run-out for the reserves tomorrow, and hopefully Matty Potter will be fit as he's responding well to treatment as he was a bit sore after Saturday.

At this moment in time we have a squad that is hungry and fighting fit - and we've not had that really all season, so it's a great position to be in.

Hopefully now we can start picking up league points and climb the table.
