Lowestoft's Howard Clarke found his form at the fourth round of the Mud Sweat and Gears Eastern Cross Country mountain bike series.
Carver Army Barracks, near Saffron Walden was the venue and Spoked Cycles had three riders in the Veterans’ category.
Sadly Johnny Lincoln took a tumble on his first lap, landing on his arm, and had to pull out.
On the first turn, Clarke and several others got in front. The course was just over three miles long and the Vets race was a maximum of five laps but anyone who was behind the fastest rider on the course, would be pulled in at the end of their lap if they were behind.
This meant that Clarke was able to continue to do a fifth lap but Phil Johnston, being a minute and a half behind his team mate, had to stop after four.
Clarke finished 35th place completing five laps in 1:40:10. Johnston was two places behind but only got four laps in with a time of 1:21:04.
