A weather forecast during the week of wet and windy probably put several helmsmen off sailing on Sunday.

But in the event the forecast was only half right as although it was windy - too windy for some dinghies - it was a beautiful sunny morning which made for some excellent sailing conditions.

A weather forecast during the week of wet and windy probably put several helmsmen off sailing on Sunday.

But in the event the forecast was only half right as although it was windy - too windy for some dinghies - it was a beautiful sunny morning which made for some excellent sailing conditions.

There was a good turnout of 12 assorted dinghies in the first Fast Handicap race at Oulton Broad and most of them took a swim at some time.

Richard Fryer led the fleet for much of the time in his RS400 and although he crossed the line in first place he was not far enough in front of the Lasers to save his time as he dropped to third place behind Alan Cone and Jonathan Jones.

Jim Tubby got the best of the start in the Squibs and Bryan Riley had to be content with second place. David Gooch was close behind at the start of the run but did his chances no good, although he did provide excellent entertainment for the spectators, by hoisting his spinnaker from the wrong corner.

Three Toppers contested the Slow Handicap races and Flip Foulds continued on her unbeatable way by winning both races by big margins.

The second Fast Handicap race, without the Lasers, was dominated by RS designs, but although Richard Fryer again took first place on the water he lost out to Paul Highfield by just six seconds with Richard Holmes third.

Several of the Lasers failed to appear for their class race and only Alan Cone and Jonathan Jones sailed and they finished in that order.

A couple of Squibs also stayed ashore for their second race and Jim Tubby completed the double by pulling out a good lead from Richard Dell with David Gooch third.

Results: Fast Handicap One (12): 1 The Other Woman (Alan Cone), 2 Zigzgzig (Jonathan Jones), 3 Custard (Richard Fryer).

Squibs One (6): 1 Spirit of Perfection (Jim Tubby), 2 Brimstone (Bryan Riley), 3 Tom Cat (John Lockwood).

Slow Handicap (3): 1 Adumf (Flip Foulds), 2 Topper 25234.

Fast Handicap Two (5): 1 One off the Devil (Paul Highfield), 2 Custard; 3 Lunchtime (Richard Holmes).

Lasers (2): 1 The Other Woman, 2 Zigzgzig.

Squibs Two (4): 1 Spirit of Perfection, 2 Heartbeat (Richard Dell), 3 Ex Flame (David Gooch).
