IPSWICH Town fans will be able to watch the club's opening game of the new season on television.

The Blues' game at Coventry City has been confirmed for Sunday, August 9, with a 12.45pm kick-off and will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Coventry chairman Ray Ransom welcomed the move saying: “It's a nice tick in the box for us to get the first live Sky game of the new season.”

This will probably mean Town's midweek Carling Cup game at League Two Shrewsbury being put back from the scheduled Tuesday staging.

Town are set to go into that game without possibly three of their international players as Northern Ireland (Gareth McAuley), the Republic of Ireland (Alex Bruce) and Macedonia (Veliche Shumulikoski) all have friendly internationals that midweek.

Clubs voted last autumn not to bring the season forward a week and to accept that they might be short of some players in the opening week of the Carling Cup.
