Lowestoft's Paul Davis, fighting at the cruiserweight, recovered from a slow start to earn a draw against Michael Banbulan, from Staines, over four rounds, at the Norfolk Showground last Saturday.

But trainer Graham Everett said the 29-year-old's build-up had been less than perfect for the fight on the undercard of Jon Thaxton's successful European title challenge.

“He didn't box his best and he knows, he doesn't need to be told,” said Everett.

“But in his defence he was on the verge of pulling out on Tuesday because he did injure his shoulder - and he got married last week as well, so he has had a lot of distractions on his mind.

“Maybe if this fight was two weeks further on he probably could have got his head round it a little bit more, but he did have a lot on his plate. I have had a go at him and he understands - but he is better than that. He boxed to 50pc of his capabilities and got a draw.”
