THE Waveney Dominators continue to live up to their name in both league and handicap table tennis competition.

The final of the Presidents Cup was held last Friday and the in-form Dominators were met by the second division team, Waveney Critters.

The Presidents Cup uses a handicap points system to balance players of all abilities in competition, which gave the Dominators significant ground to make up on their opponents.

But it didn't take long for the first division leaders to find their stride and early wins for Martin Peek, Luke Caswell and Stuart Baxter gained the Dominators a 6-1 lead.

Further Dominator wins meant that after only five games the Critters were left with a veritable mountain to climb with the score at 10-2.

Although the following games saw two straight sets from Graham Lawson and further wins for Gary Warnes and Alan Peek, the damage had already been done and Dominators strode to victory and claimed their second set of silverware this season with a final score of 14-8.

Also last week the second division teams qualifying through the D2 Challenge won the right compete against the top flight teams in the first round of the Blue Riband Cup.

The D2 winner's Mutford Merlins visited the LCC Shakers. Ian Ruddock fought hard to win three of his games but the Shakers stood strong to repel the challenge.

Dave Willis, Stephen Cruickshanks, and Bernard Warnes all took two games from the Merlins completing a 6-3 win.

The Hits meanwhile met the Spartans at Mill Lane.

Despite a valiant effort from Stuart Mortimer and a win for Martyn Gregory against Thomas Baxter, the Spartans rallied to gain a 5-4 victory.

The Critters struggled against Waveney Sidewaves picking up just two games courtesy of Graham Lawson. Gorleston Conservatives struggled similarly against division one challenges the Piranhas.

Points for Malcolm Vasey and Albert Cadmore couldn't prevent a 7-2 Piranha win.

The Terminators managed to pull the match back from Trimwise after Charles Goddard first lost a point to Paul Wright (snr) and then claimed the final point against Debra Faulkner.

Victory finally fell to the Terminator team with a 5-4 score.

The Dominators started well when Stuart Baxter beat Ray Lee in two straight sets, and although the Oddbods pulled back two games thanks to Eddie Fuller and Martin Clarke, the Dominators prevailed 7-2.

And the Kites found the first division Tables too bigger challenge going down 9-0.
