IN front of a veritable crowd for table tennis finals in Lowestoft, the Waveney Dominators rounded off their most successful season to date and completed a quadruple title win with the Blue Riband Cup.

As league winners and current holders of the Blue Riband Cup, the Dominators came into the final as firm favourites playing against fellow first division team and former winners, the Waveney Terminators.

After a slow start, Trevor Pull fought back for the Terminators in the first game but Paul Wilkinson was on form this evening and the Dominators took first blood. Paul Wright Jnr kept Luke Caswell's sweeping left hand under control and pulled the match back level at 1-1.

In the third game Martin Peek's opening set against Charles Goddard went to plan but he fell apart in the second and was forced to pull up with cramp. From 14-4 down Peek managed to fight on but the point differential was too much and Goddard won 21-18 to force a deciding third set.

Peek battled on to win the match against a now unsettled Goddard. Wright levelled the match once more at 2-2, before it was Goddard's turn to face the Caswell forehand.

Smashing from left and right Caswell kept the Terminators team captain on the back foot and despite some excellent defending in the second set that saw Goddard claw back from 7-16.

Caswell remained focused to retake the lead for the Dominators.

Peek opened the gap further against Pull, but it was Wilkinson's dazzling performance in the seventh game, setting up forehand drives on one side of the table before smashing the finish on the other, that completed an unassailable lead for the Dominators.

Wright completed his own personal treble on the night in his final game that a still struggling Peek was probably pleased he now didn't need to win.

And Caswell rounded off the victory for the Dominators against a plucky Pull who forced the last set of the match into a crowd pleasing five-point deuce.

Final score was 6-3 to the Dominators who retain their Blue Riband title for a second year.
