Rookery Park’s junior captain Conal Downing won the Suffolk Junior Championships at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club.

Conal, who was out of golf for nine months with a badly broken left arm, had a steady morning round of 78 against a par of 72.

However he then recorded a magnificent second round of five under par to pip Newton Green’s Harvey Watts by one.

Rookery Park hosted the County Open Championship for both professional and amateur golfers. Alfie Halil became the first 16-year-old winner in 36 years when he beat Bramford Golf Centre professional Brad Wilkins by one shot. Halil ended two under par and was also leading amateur.

In the other scratch golf county tournament Rookery Park lost a closely fought semi-final 7-5 against Hintelsham. The club also held its Warner Cup event in support of the Poppy Appeal which was won by Matt Sherlock with an excellent net five under par 67.
