THE Lowestoft and District Tennis Championships sponsored by M R King and Sons was held at Southwold Tennis Club last week, with the weather not interrupting too much.

Last year's losing finalist Ben Hall was too strong from the back of the court for everyone in the competition with Trevor Bailey making the final.

Sixteen-year-old Kari Sherrington reached her first final and defeated reigning champion Debbie Faulkner.

It was a final of contrasting tennis styles, Sherrington's power game against the classic control game of Faulkner, but youth and power won the day with Sherrington edging it.

The men's doubles provided the most competitive play with the winners Stuart Brabben and Hall winning three matches in a row in the last set and defeating last year's successful pairing David Henderson and P Tye in an entertaining final clash.

Holly Sherrington joined her sister Kari to win the ladies doubles beating Sally Juler and Faulkner in three sets.

There was no Sherrington family hat-trick with Brabben and Faulkner winning a close mixed doubles final against Kevin Baker and Holly Sherrington.

The veterans and restricted event results saw Jane Reeve collect three titles.

The league would like thank Southwold Tennis Club and its members for hosting the event, Ken Strong for presenting the trophies with special mention to Allan and Jane Reeve who were the driving force at the tournament and thanks for M R King for sponsoring the event.
