Easy win for Kessingland in Easey Cup final

The Easey Cup Final between Kessingland A and Wrentham A took place at Thurlton Bowls Club.

Looking to do the league and cup double, Wrentham were never at ease on the Thurlton green, Kessingland won comfortably 76-64, losing only on one rink.

Top block Leon Rappensberger, Angie Staniforth with Jimmy Summons won 23-11 while Norman Wigg, Ken Porter with Steve Caird (23-16) and Neil Newsome, Robert Barber with Dick Primmett (16-16) secured the cup for Kessingland.

In the Sunshine League there was more success for Kessingland over Wrentham with Kessingland Blue, trying to avoid relegation, winning 60-48, 5-1, top block John Weavers, Duncan Armon with Phil Wilmhurst 28-8).

Kensington Gardens Bowls Club have played three games in the Benacre League, home and away against Beccles Caxton and at home to Earsham.

Beccles Caxton did a quick double, winning 64-77 (2-5) at the Gardens and 72-73 (2-5) at Beccles. Earsham came to Lowestoft lying second in the league and hoping for promotion but the suffered a 76-74 (6-1) defeat.

The Sunshine League team also had three fixtures, two against Lowestoft Rail and one against Bungay. Spoils were shared with the Rail - away the Gardens lost 49-60 (1-5) but two days later they gained revenge, winning 58-51 (5-1).

In a close game at Bungay the Gardens were beaten 52-56 (1-5).

In the BE Triples Kensington hosted Beccles B in the final game and had a good 120-21 (7-0) victory. This result gave Kensington the Second Division title.

Oulton Broad played at Sparrow’s Nest in their last Bowls England League game and the scores were level after 10 ends.

R Turner, D Daniels, D Brearley won 30-12 and A Buck, B Chapman, R Goddard won 23-9 to give Broad the win 86-71 (5-2).

At Bradwell in the Lothingland League Broad led 44-35 at 10 ends but Bradwell improved to beat Broad 82-70 (4-3) despite Broad winning three rinks.

In the final game of the season Broad played Blundeston and held a 17-shot lead at 10 ends.

Both A Buck, G Smith and R Goddard and D Brearley, R Newman, L Moore won 24-13, helping Broad win 83-61 (6-1).
