Evening of celebration at Lowestoft Railway IBC

Lowestoft Railway Bowls Club held its annual indoor bowls presentation night last week.
The indoor club chairman Simon Drake presented all the winners and runners-up with trophies and certificates.
Thanks were extended to the committee and to organisers of the winter leagues that are played Monday to Friday and the coaching team that give up their time to encourage new members young and old at the club’s centre in Carlton Road.
John Walford and Malcolm Upton were also thanked for organising well attended mixed tournaments while congratulations were given to the men’s Norfolk county team that won division three, an outstanding achievement as they took top place by one point.
The ladies’ player of the year went to Ann Horne who took three titles and the men’s player of the year went to Roger McGee. Both players were runners-up in other club competitions.
Very new to the game, Novice winners were Eileen Connell, who after a hand injury learnt to bowl left handed in her first season, with partner David Rudd. Runners-up were Sarah Turley and Barry Gambrill.

Waveney Bowls Club opened their outdoor season with two friendlies and a drive.
Away at Beccles Caxton they regained the Hospital Cup Trophy with a win 81-74 with best block win of 26-10 by Eric Jermy, George Juggins and Val Page.
Away at Thurlton, Waveney lost 59-71 with the best block win of 18-7 coming from Mac Lloyd, Arthur Fellingham and Diana Reynolds. The first drive of the season was won by Roger Hurren.
