THE Notley's Lowestoft & District Saturday League recently held their annual meeting at the Marquis of Lorne public house in the town.

The meeting commenced with a standing two minutes applause, at the request of his wife, Jacquie, for John Berrey, the League chairman, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.

Norton Athletic were champions of division one, with Oxford Arms finishing as runners-up. Beccles Caxton Reserves and Mutford and Wrentham were relegated. Division two champions were AFC Star, with Great Yarmouth Town Hall finishing in second place. They were both promoted to division one, along with Pakefield Re-United. Both Harleston Town Reserves and Sole Bay United Reserves were relegated as they finished in the bottom two places in Division 2.

Waveney Gunners were the winners of Division three with Spexhall Reserves, runners-up. They were both promoted to Division two, along with Waveney A and Earsham. Corton A have disbanded.

Two new clubs were elected to join the League next season, these being Lowestoft Albion and FC Eastport. It will mean that all three divisions will consist of the maximum of 14 teams.

Several clubs have changed their name, these being: Ole Frank, to Corton & Ole Frank, Suffolk Punch to DK Consultants, Tudor will be called Telecom Rovers, Sole Bay United Reserves are reverting back to Southwold Town Reserves and Norman Warrior will become Royal Oak.

Two very special presentations were made to the retiring League Secretary, Mike Johnson. Mike was Assistant Secretary for over 20 years and has been Secretary and Treasurer for the past 25 years...a remarkable achievement!

The L & D Referees' Association presented Mike with an engraved Glass Plate and he also received £250 of vouchers for Warners Holidays on behalf of the league committee. His wife, Susan, was also thanked for her help and support to Mike during all those years and she received a bouquet of flowers at her home the previous day as she did not wish to attend the meeting.

Other presentations went to B Robinson, of Corton White Horse Seltic, who won the Secretary's Cup and Norman Warrior, winners of the Sportsmanship Trophy, awarded by marks given from referees. Waveney Gunners were winners of the League Fair Play Trophy.

Officers elected for 2010/2011 were: President J Wilton, Chairman I McMeekan, Vice-Chairman D Crisp, Secretary G Gray, Registration and Results Secretary B Gower, Treasurer M Johnson, SCFA Junior Representative M Leeds, Referees' Secretary R May, Fixtures Secretary J Harris. Committee members are R Bonner, C Gower, D Hackney, K Hitcham, J Jones and S Yarham.
