IT was a golden day for three sisters, who train at the Norfolk Academy of Gymnastics at Besthorpe, when they all became county champions on the same day.

It is thought that this is a unique achievement in gymnastics for three siblings to grab gold in the same event on the same day.

The Kenzitts - Summer-Jade 12, Angel, 10, and Harmony 7, all competed in Norfolk County Championships on Saturday and all got the gold medal, becoming county champion for their own grades and ages.

The girls, who previously trained at the Waveney Gym Club while living in the Lowestoft area, moved to Attleborough last year to be near the new Norfolk Academy of Gymnastics at Besthorpe.

Mum Julia said: “We believe this could be a first in the sport when three sisters have achieved this status on the same day. Summer and Angel achieved the title last year but for their younger sister to win as well this year is fantastic.”

Norfolk Academy head coach Sara-Jane Inglis, added: “We're really proud of them.

“To have all three become county champions on the same day in the same sport is amazing. There have been two before but for three sisters to all be crowned county champions on the same day, we think, is unique in the history of British gymnastics.”

Angel contested the Compulsory 2 competition, the highest grade in the country, with her difficult bars exercise the key to victory.

If she can repeat that level of performance in Liverpool in the national competition on March 8 she will attain the much-coveted status of Elite gymnast - the first person in Norfolk to achieve this level for many years.

The Academy's total medal tally at the championships was 18 - 10 golds, six silvers and two bronzes.

Inglis said: “This was a brilliant day.

“We knew we had a strong presence across the grades but couldn't have dreamt of this level of success.”
