The Harris Middle School under 11 girls football team have won the ESFA County 7-a-side Championship for the second time in three seasons.

The team qualified in 2nd place in the group phase of the finals, beating Elm Tree 1-0, and Westley Middle 2-1.

Captain Zoe Cossey was in great form throughout the tournament and scored all three goals.

In the final group match against Breckland, the girls relaxed and swapped positions, having already qualified and went down 2-0, with the captain performing well, this time in goal.

In the semi-final, the Harris team played superbly and beat group two winners Hardwick Middle 3-0.

The defence led by Chantelle Adams did not allow keeper Laura Durrant any touches of the ball and Captain Cossey scored a brilliant hat-trick, weaving through the defence like Diego Maradona.

Harris played Breckland for the second time in the final and stunned their opponents with a quickfire start.

Cossey finished well after a trademark dribble and soon after produced an identical run resulting in a saved shot that Paige Baker pounced on to slot home.

Had Cossey's next effort not struck the bar, Harris would have been home and dry.

But Breckland went straight upfield from the rebound to score.

The opposition then hit the post just before half-time.

The second half was a brave rearguard action, with with goalkeeper Durrant saving a penalty and defenders Edie Williamson and Lily Gallagher making telling clearances to deny their opponents.

However, Breckland could not add to their score and a delighted Harris Team were crowned as Suffolk County Champions.

“This was an unexpected but hugely enjoyable result, especially as only seven girls were available for the final,” a spokesperson for the victorious school said after the success.

“They followed the team orders to the letter and each girl played their part in a great achievement.

“On the day the combination of determined defending and a superb display from our captain, proved enough to win the competition.

“Everyone at Harris Middle School is very proud of them.”

All Saints Middle 2, Harris Middle U13 17

The Harris Middle Under 13 girls football team began the defence of their County title in fine style against All Saints Middle School from Sudbury.

Captain Laura Dyson starred with five goals, followed closely by the prolific Natasha Thomas with four goals as the Harris went on the rampage.

Zalonia Warford and Arianna Lloyd also helped themselves to hat-tricks, whilst Shannon Reynolds and Alice Cheverton added the teams other goals as All Saints fourn Harris unstoppable.

Greater challenges lie in store further on in the competition, but this result has given the team great confidence and it is going to need a very good team to defeat them and stop them retaining the trophy they won in fine style last season.
