International teams set to light up Waveney Gymnastics Club
A LOWESTOFT club has landed a triple treat in time for the Christmas and New Year period.
Waveney Gymnastics Club were celebrating once more this week with the announcement that three international teams will train at their top-class facility prior to the London test event next January.
Following the World Championships in Tokyo last October, Gymnastics Canada and Great Britain's men didn't automatically qualify as teams for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, just finishing outside the top eight. To secure their place, they must both qualify in the top four at the event at the O2 Arena, starting on January 10.
And prior to this, Waveney Gymnastics Club will be hosting the Canadian and GB men's teams, as well as a small delegation from Australia. Unfortunately, Australia did not qualify as a team, they will however be bringing gymnasts across to compete for the remaining eight Olympic individual places.
This will mean the likes of Louis Smith and Daniel Keatings from the GB team, and Australian gymnast Pranshanth Sellathurai, will be in Lowestoft to prepare for the event.

Waveney Gym Club are continuing their partnership with the Hotel Victoria, with the coastal hotel overseeing all catering requirements for the three teams as well as providing accommodation, which will be shared with Broadland Holiday Village.
Both the Australians and Canadians will be arriving on Tuesday, December 27, staying throughout the New Year period until January 7. The British will commence their preparations on January 3, with all teams looking to secure those final places for next year's Olympics.

'This is a very exciting time for Waveney Gymnastics Club, hosting some of the world's best gymnasts that are preparing for the biggest event of their sporting lives,' Chloe McMorran, centre manager, said. 'We are continuing to do some excellent work alongside Hotel Victoria in hosting these international athletes, however we're looking for more organisations and businesses inspired by London 2012 to get involved. The package that we provide these international teams is fully inclusive of accommodation, catering, transport and gym hire,' Ms McMorran added. 'As soon as a team lands at the airport they don't have to worry about a thing and we look after their every need. However we want to offer more to ensure these teams return to the area, benefiting the club and district as well as local businesses and organisations. If any businesses or organisations can offer support, whether it is a free trip to the Broads, hosting a reception or providing free vehicle hire, we would like to hear from you. Your help would assist the area in securing these international superstars of the future and give great publicity to our supporters,' Ms McMorran said.
The club will be hosting an open training session in January to give locals the opportunity to watch the London 2012 medal hopefuls.
