IPSWICH Town boss Roy Keane has pinpointed Lincoln City's Djombo 'Dany' N'Guessan as a possible target to fill the problem left side of midfield area.

With Luciano Civelli not expected back from serious knee injury until the turn of the year, the left flank is an area Town need to get covered with Keane also looking to bring in a striker, defender and pacy central midfielder.

Ipswich are understood to be ready to pounce for he 21-year-old French-born midfielder even though he is in talks to join newly-promoted Coca-Cola Championship rivals Leicester City.

The former Auxerre youth player is out of contract at the end of next month but the Imps are looking for compensation for the young midfielder who they signed from Glasgow Rangers after he impressed on loan at neighbours Boston.

Lincoln City chairman Steff Wright revealed that while they were in talks with the Foxes it was not a done deal. Ipswich may have further competition for N'Guessan's signature from Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal Palace.

Wright said: “Leicester will feel they have a head start on everybody by talking to Dany, but by no means is it cut and dry.

“Although we have started talking to Leicester about a possible compensation package, there is still a long way to go and they still haven't agreed terms with the player.

“Besides, I will not name the other clubs, but there are others waiting to talk to Dany and have made their interest known to us.

“Dany's contract doesn't officially expire until June 30, so he has plenty of time to make his decision about who he will join.

“It's still very early and I expect there to be further developments in the next week.”

Keane was back in Scotland over the weekend as he watched Motherwell beat Hamilton 3-0 and the Scottish media are suggesting he has joined the long list of managers looking at 18-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 James McCarthy.

With Celtic his most likely destination, and with a pack of Premier League clubs also after him, Town's interest may not go much further.

Not surprisingly Sunderland striker David Healy has again been linked with Ipswich Town.

The Northern Ireland striker was a target of Jim Magilton's but it was Keane who nabbed the prolific international scorer by signing him for Sunderland from Fulham.

Keane is known to be more likely to buy players he has worked with before, either as a player or manager and Celtic's Bobo Balde who is also a free agent in the summer is the sort of signing he could make.
